Disadvantages of Dialysis

Dialysis is based on the principles of the diffusion of solutes and ultrafiltration of fluid through a semi-permeable membrane. Dialysis can help patients in the end stage live a normal life, so in some way it is beneficial to patients. However, dialysis is also followed by many side effects.
First and foremost, dialysis is money-consuming. Dialysis just helps patents remove excessive water and electrolyte from their blood and it can not treat their disease, so it is not the root treatment for patients. Usually, patients who are undergoing dialysis need to do it for several times a week. Seeing from this point, dialysis is very money-consuming.
Secondly, patients with end stage of Chronic Kidney Disease(ESRD) are easy to rely on dialysis. Long-term dialysis can cause renal atrophy and blood flow in kidneys will correspondingly reduce. As a result, our kidneys can not produce urine. If a body can not produce urine, then the water ingested by patients can not be excreted; consequently, patients need to undergo dialysis again and again.
Thirdly, dialysis can not make toxin in patients’ body decrease to the level of healthy people. The toxic substances accumulating in patients’ body will cause damage to their other organs. Adopting dialysis means giving chance to the occurrence of other diseases. Therefore, dialysis actually shortens patients’ life span. How to Manage the Adverse Effects After Dialysis
Fourthly, dialysis lowers the quality of patients’ life. For patients undergoing dialysis, they have to do dialysis every two or three days and each time it last four to five hours. After undergoing dialysis, patients usually feel very tired, which has affected patients’ life and work greatly. Moreover, when blood is filtered through dialysis machine, every kinds of complications such as high blood pressure may occur, which increases the incidence of infection. Hence, dialysis has great bad influence on patients’ life.

Dialysis is not an effective way for people to maintain their life. Thereby, if patients with end stage of Chronic Kidney Disease want to avoid dialysis, then they should receive treatment as early as possible.
